She
wanted the ruffled look of a shirred valance with the definition of faces
and bells of a bell valance. The pieces were cut separately to balance
the same pattern motif in the center of each face and in the center of
each bell. The faces were scalloped.
Once
shirred on the rod, the header at the top of the bells is pushed to the
back of the rod. This brings the bell up and out to give it some definition.
The fullness in the header fills in the gap. The contrast microcroding
at the bottom and lining in the bells helps emphasize the graceful curves
of the bottom.
