Banding
along lower edge is a contrast fabric with a third fabric used as piping
on top and bottom.
Scroll
down for close-up of the banding.
The
banding must be cut in the finished shape. Cutting a straight strip on
the bias and trying to curve it to this shape does not work. The piping
on the top edge is sewn to the banding. The banding is pinned to the main
valance and attached by using a 'stitch in the ditch' technique of topstitching
right in the seam line between the banding and piping. The seam line disappears.
The
piping on the bottom is sewn to the banding and face layer. The lining
is then pillowslipped along the bottom.
