Layered valance in two fabrics.

Note that the plaid pattern on the ties are slightly offset from plaid pattern on the flat sections. This was a mistake which actually makes the finished treatment more interesting.

I cut all pieces very carefully, making sure the pattern fell at the same point on each piece, measured from the bottom. Once assembled, I realized that the ties should have been cut longer at the bottom, not the top, for the pattern to remain consistent across the valance.

The same treatment, using a floral as the contrast fabric under the main stripe.

Here we employ the same design again. However, these valances are over 22 inches long. The contrast underlay is 2 inches longer than the overlay to proportionately balance the overall look.

Also, though it is not easy to see, the pattern for the ties was cut to a point following the diamond pattern woven in the fabric. It is a small detail, but one which enhances the finished product and indicates a custom finish.
